CAHUL

Cahul, called the “Southern Capital” of Moldova, is a city in the south-western part of the Republic of Moldova, located on the border with Romania and 175 km from Chisinau.

With more than 40 thousand inhabitants, it is the 6th largest city in the country (after Chisinau, Balti, Tiraspol, Tighina and Ribnita), but the third in terms of economic development potential and social importance.

Most of the companies that visited Cahul were interested in the investment opportunities it offers, especially its proximity to the border with Romania and the port of Giurgiulesti.

A very important role is played by the sufficient labor force in the region, but also by the diversity of the qualified labor force training offer, represented by the 2 vocational schools and the multi-purpose school; 2 universities, the State University “Bogdan Petriceicu Hașdeu”, in which the extension of the University “Dunărea de Jos” from Galați operates; 2 colleges.

Cahul municipality has a population of 40,900 inhabitants (2014). The economically active population constitutes about 62% of the total number.
According to the law no. 203 of 20.11.2015 on the territory of Cahul municipality were created two subzones of the “Balti” FEZ, a 17 ha subzone with industrial buildings and a 23 ha subzone for “greenfield” investment projects.

The municipality status of Cahul city will further contribute to the stimulation of the socio-economic development of the city.
